Rolling stone gathers no posse

“Any problems on the day, please call us on our mobiles,” typically rounds off a jolly invite. But when Money Marketing went to meet the Barings posse last week for The Rolling Stones gig, no amount of calls to both mobiles listed on the invite got any response.

An hour after the MM hack’s arrival, a call arrived telling him that the press team and some other hacks were in, surprise surprise, a pub and were wondering where MM was.

When MM eventually met Barings and company, mutterings of “Oh, I think I have some missed calls” could be overheard.

Still, it meant that MM got to see support act The Charlatans in peace and in a state of sobriety and, indeed, the nigh-on Jurassic main act still have it despite any coconut tree incidents.l Hats off to Neil Mainland. No, not because the wine was of a particular vintage or because his clients were full of juicy industry titbits although both are probably true.

No, Mr Mainland’s choice of venue came complete with some very attractive cocktail waitresses wearing outfits that left little to the imagination.

The Diary thinks that will always go down well with the gentlemen of financial services. “It’s all about multi-tasking.”
