Rob Thomas becomes CML senior policy adviser, mortgage funding

The Council of Mortgage Lenders has appointed Rob Thomas as its new senior policy adviser covering mortgage funding issues.

This brings the number of policy advisers to six with a total of 36 staff at the CML.

Thomas has been the project manager for the European Mortgage Finance Agency project, developing a proposal for a pan-European mortgage funding institution.

Prior to this he was a housing market and mortgage bank analyst at UBS Warburg following five years at the Bank of England as an economist.

He says: “With mortgage securitisation and the development of a UK covered bond market adding to traditional retail and wholesaled funding sources, funding is a rapidly evolving field. The implementation of Basel II is likely to ensure that this evolution continues apace. Choice of funding has an impact on mortgage product design and I hope to be able to help the CML pro-actively identify and address issues that derive from mortgage funding developments.”
