Richard Romer-Lee: Seven qualities that make great fund managers

With around 5,000 funds for the UK investor to choose from and widely differing performance depending on who is at the helm, identifying a strong manager has never been more important.

Speaking at a recent Schroders conference in New York, Square Mile Investment Research and Consulting co-founder Richard Romer-Lee listed seven qualities he thinks are essential for a fund manager to be considered ‘great’.

“It’s very hard to be a good investor – day in, day out beating the index, the average or the peer group,” the former OBSR founder said. “These are a few characteristics that people don’t ordinarily talk about.”
