The end of the 125 per cent mortgage may be seen as no bad thing. Whether it is the end of the 100 per cent mortgage remains to be seen despite some headlines to that effect. Clearly, it is now more difficult to secure credit. Our fear is with those who cannot renew their mortgage without a massive payment shock. Borrowers in the sub-prime category will suffer most and that is where brokers can prove their worth if they use their skills to help these people renew their loans. But it may be that there are some categories of borrower who should not have been lent the money in the first place and may pay the price.
