Send in the lawyers…Part 1
Regular Out of Context victim Robert Reid had the MM lawyers on red alert last week when he opened the annual Retirement Planning Summit with a video of Hitler.
Reid, who was chairing the event, decided to “shake things up” by playing the infamous ‘Hitler buys an annuity’ YouTube video before Lord John Hutton’s keynote speech.
The video features Hitler, played by Bruno Ganz in the 2004 movie Downfall, apparently ranting at his financial adviser after being told to buy an annuity the day before the Budget.
Reid introduced Hutton by saying: “I bet you’ve never had to follow the Third Reich have you?” Hutton described Reid’s decision to play the video as “brave”.
Send in the lawyers…Part 2
An MM hack summoned the spirit of hapless Police Squad Lt. Frank Drebin when he left his mic on before chairing the final session of this year’s Retirement Planning Summit, the Wells Street Journal has learned.
Sources say MM head of news Tom Selby was heard by delegates “chatting nonsense” outside the main conference room minutes before chairing the final session of the summit.
But Selby was alerted to his faux pas before going to the toilet and thus avoided recreating Drebin’s famous “bathroom noises” clanger in Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult.
