Reasons to be cheerful

Friday, November 30 is set to be a momentous date. While it will not be quite in the same league as the second coming of Christ or the advent of the new century, there will clearly be much rejoicing and celebration throughout the land.

The fatted calves will be slaughtered, wine will flow and there will be singing and dancing in the streets.

Peace and goodwill among men will abound, with the breathing of a great and collective sigh of relief. It will be a sort of triumphant Mardi Gras for the UK financial services industry – hell, a few of us might even get laid.

The dawn of a new era, we pray. From December 1, life can only get better.

I refer, of course, to the long-awaited consignment to history of the PIA. Good riddance to bad rubbish -and to all the waste and misery it has brought with it.
