Pru boosts broker support

Prudential is hiring 50 broker consultants and increasing its sales support by around 35.

After a year-long review of its sales support, which included extensive market research, Pru decided its coverage of regional brokers and networks was insufficient. It believes its national coverage is adequate.

Pru has so far recruited 26 more broker consultants across its two distribution channels who will start by January. The remainder will be in place by the end of March.

They have been recruited from a variety of rival companies after Pru set up 40 assessment centres around the country.

The new sales support and quotation handling staff will be in place by the end of March, taking its total support staff to 175.

UK IFA sales director Chris Trainer says the recruitment has been funded out of Pru’s operational budget and not its £1bn rights issue war chest. He says: “Our broker salesforce is too small and we are expanding it at a time when very few, if any, other companies are increasing their support staff.”
