Premier makes global equities hire

Premier Fund Managers has recruited Utilico’s James Smith to its global equities team.

Smith will work alongside Mike Jennings, chief investment officer, and Jake Robbins, Claire Burgess and Fen Sung, all senior investment managers.

However, his primary responsibility will be the management of Premier’s energy and water mandates, which recently saw the departure of manager Kevin Scutt.

Premier managing director for sales and marketing Simon Weldon says: “At a time when Premier’s profile as an investment group continues to grow rapidly, Smith will further boost the credentials of the Premier global equities team which will now consist of five experienced investment professionals.”

The new recruit has joined from Utilico after 13 years, having previously worked at Fleming Asset Management and Coopers & Lylbrand.
