Premier appoints Simon King

Premier Asset Management has hired former Gartmore manager Simon King to run its UK thematic and smaller companies funds.

King, who formerly managed multi cap long/short and long only absolute return funds at Gartmore, including UK alpha and UK equity high alpha, will join Premier on April 13.

He replaces Mike Jennings as manager of the £61m UK thematic fund and Chris Wright on the £20.6m Premier smaller companies fund. The move frees up Wright and Jennings to focus on the running of their other funds, which total six between them.

Wright continues to run the Premier optimal income, UK mid 250 and fellowship funds, while Wright stays in charge of global DSR, European growth and managed assets.

Before joining Gartmore in 1996, King spent two years at Natwest Investment Management as a member of its smaller companies team. He left Gartmore in 2009 following the appointment of Leigh Himsworth from Royal London Asset Management.

Premier CEO Mike O’Shea says: “Premier is continuing to recruit highly regarded individuals and build its in-house fund management skills.  Simon will join the growing team of investment specialists and will help us continue to build the Premier funds business.”
