Open letter to managing director, Unum Provident Lifestyle Protection Centre
I expect when you get a letter from an IF A, your heart sinks and you think it is going to be one of complaint. On this occasion, I have a letter of such extraordinary praise for one of your staff that I believe it is so noteworthy I am going to try and have it highlighted in the press.
Without being unkind, I think one has to admit that over the last few years Unum Provident has not always been the brightest kid on the block. Underwriting has sometimes been protracted and difficult and efficiency has not always been a by-word. However, I am delighted to say that this has all changed and I have put in a few cases in the last year which have been dealt with very effectively.
However, your sales consultant Jo McWhirr is something else. Last year, I left Sesame in order to go directly authorised with the FSA. One thing I had not realised was that as I had permanent health insurance with your company, it was not able to be continued because I was over 60.
I was rather upset about this but Jo said she would keep my name on file and, if your terms ever altered, she would let me know.
In a case like this, it is highly unlikely that anyone would remember such a request or have it diarised or anything else, so when I suddenly heard out of the blue from her that you had changed your contract such that you would be able to take me on after all, I was truly amazed and astonished.
Not only did she do that but she also sent me an application form and, on top of that, it was not put in until the middle of January and yet the policy is now on risk at ordinary rates, apart from one or two provisos, which is not bad for someone aged 62. Also, it is absolutely incredible that the surgery managed to get a doctor’s report back in time.
Basically, you are winning on two counts. First, your company suddenly escalates itself to the top of the premier league but, also, you have staff who are not just good but great.
As I am continually sending whingeing letters, it certainly makes a great change and I do hope you will compliment Jo, who is a great credit to an organisation which is improving rapidly.
