Plans offer gateway to specialist markets

Sesame head of research Mark Peters believes structured products offer an ideal route for investors seeking access to emerging markets or specialist products such as commodities.

Speaking at the Money Marketing round table, Peters said structured products can provide exposure to specialist markets while offering a defined return in the future.

He said: “For a client they offer an ideal diversification solution in markets where you can make mass gains but there is always the question of increased volatility and the unknown.”

Santander global banking head of intermediary coverage Gary Dale said: “We are getting to the point where more esoteric indices are outselling the FTSE. Our Japanese and latest two Hong Kong offerings have outstripped the UK by a mile.”

NDF director Paul Bispham said: “That is what a structured product is there to do. It is designed to give an investor access to an emerging or specialist market with the insurance that if that market struggles, then they will get your money back.”
