PFS wins deal for university pensions

The Personal Finance Society has signed an exclusive agreement to offer advice to members of the biggest pension scheme in the country.

The Universities Super-annuation Scheme, which has around 200,000
participants, has appointed the PFS to advise its members.

Scheme members, mainly lecturers and university staff, will be
referred to PFS associates and fellows who will have the G60
qualification.

The PFS developed a link with the USS through the Chartered Insurance
Institute and says it is in negotiations with a number of other big
pension schemes to strike similar deals next year.

The USS will be running a series of training days for members in
conjunction with the PFS to help them advise members on the relative
benefits and services available to them.

The initiative will be piloted in London and Bristol in January and
if successful rolled out across the UK next year.

Sofa managing director Bob Bullivant says: “The scheme itself
decided it wanted its members to receive high-level advice from
qualified advisers who follow a code of conduct.”
