PFS or IFP conference- which one will you attend?

Money Marketing this week revealed that the Personal Finance Society and the Institute of Financial Planning have both scheduled their annual conferences for the same dates in September next year.

The PFS will host its 2010 conference in Warwick on September 20 and 21 and the IFP conference will take place at Celtic Manor in Newport, Wales on September 20-22.

Both bodies, hosting their conferences earlier in the year than usual, insist they will go ahead with the proposed dates because they are contractually locked in to the bookings at their respective venues.

There is significant cross-over of membership between the two bodies and it begs the question – which conference will you choose?

  1. I’ll be going to the IFP conference again in 2010. At the IFP you get help, positivity and answers – theres no contest.

  2. These 2 bodies are supposed to represent financial planners – makes ‘planning’ seem a bit of a joke really! Surely this is more than mere coincidence.

  3. I attended the (very good) PFS Conference last week, my first time, & took advantage of the early bird discount to book for next year. Ironic that a frequent point arose during open forum of the need for unity amongst not only advisers, but the industry as a whole, in the years ahead.
Pot, kettle & black spring to mind.

I understand that both bodies are financially committed to these dates, but you do have to ask why they didn’t talk to each other first.

Unfortunately we have a habit of doing this sort of thing. A couple of years ago AIFA held its annual dinner on the same night as the PFS Conference Dinner.

I spoke with someone at the PFS Conference last week who was aware of the clash and who said she thought the IFP Conference this year was better, but as I only go to the PFS I imagine that is where I will be in September!

  5. Neither because I consider them regulatory lackeys. The PFS opens its mouth and the CII talks! Still it make a change form Andrew Fisher and his New Model old Toady Law style commission
