Evolve Financial Planning director Jason Witcombe is the first chartered champion to be appointed. He will be one of the representatives in the London area.
Witcombe says: “The RDR clearly shows the regulator’s intention of getting advisers more highly qualified. We have just over 1,700 chartered financial planners in the UK so there is clearly scope to get more, especially among younger advisers.
“The more people we have with top-level qualifications such as chartered status will improve the public perception of our profession and put the industry on the same level as solicitors and accountants.”
PFS chief executive Fay Goddard says chartered champions will be expected to be proactive in promoting and raising awareness of the chartered brand to the public through engagement with local press, radio and local community events.
The role is voluntary and will involve working within the regional committee.
Chartered champions must be full PFS members and hold the chartered financial planner title but they do not necessarily have to be currently authorised advisers.
