Perpetual blames Isa for profit slide

Perpetual blames the advent of the Isa for its8.5 per cent slide in pre-tax profits to £66.6m from £72.8m year ending September compared to the same time in 1998.


The fund manager says Isas are harder to understand than Peps. It says it was also forced to splash out more on advertising to get its share of the Pep market before they finally disappeared on April .


Perpetual funds under management rose to £10.9bn from £8.6bn over the same period.
