Some people go to great lengths to supplement their income in retirement and a pensioner who is facing jail for dealing heroin is an extreme case in point.
The 70-year-old from Swansea sold heroin that was kept in a tin hidden in a compost heap in his garden.
A jury at Swansea Crown Court found him guilty of possessing the drug with intent to supply. The defendant denied the charge and claimed he was looking after the tin for someone else. But the prosecution said he was supplementing his state pension by dealing in class A drugs.
The Judge warned him to prepare for jail when he is sentenced later this month.
Let us hope that this is not an example of what is to come and that the Government sorts out the pension system before more pensioners get this desperate.
