Pan-European pension some way off

Management consultant Towers Perrin claims that although plans for a pan-European pension are progressing its creation is still some way off in the future.

The news follows the European commission’s long awaited directive on EU pension fund regulation which calls for deeper harmonisation of pension funds in Europe.

The view of Towers Perrin is that much of the directive will benefit multi-nationals with operations in various EU countries.

However it falls very short of creating a pan-European pension fund as it doesn’t address taxation obstacles.
