The Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority has published a guide to the minimum funding requirements for pension scheme trustees.
The booklet, 'A guide to the minimum funding requirement – a summary for pension scheme trustees' details the basic requirements for funding under the Pensions Act 1995.
It aims to provide a basic understanding of the issues involved in meeting the minimum funding requirement.
Opra chairman John Hayes says: "Some trustees may be tempted to bury their head in the sand when it comes to the minimum funding requirement. Leaving it all to the professional advisers to sort out may seem an attractive option.
"But it is the trustees' responsibility to know what they should be doing and to take overall responsibility for running their scheme safely, properly and in line with the law."
