The Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority is launching a nw range of leaflets that give scheme trustees information about their duties.
The leaflets are designed as a starting point for trustees who need to learn their obligations under the Pensions Act 1995. Opra also has more detailed guidance publications to extend trustees' knowledge.
The leaflets give details of responsibilities such as how to keep members informed, appointing professional advisers and changing pension scheme year-ends. Sources of information and appointment of scheme actuaries and auditors are covered. Opra says the leaflets form part of its move of emphasising education.
The new leaflets are available at www.opra.gov.uk/publications.
Communications officer Serena Williams says: “These guides are part of our educational drive to make sure trustees are aware of their duties. The guides will be of particular use to newly appointed and lay trustees.”
