Open the window of opportunity

For all those IFAs around the world who are playing to win tickets to attend the European Champions League final in Manchester in May and an invitation to attend the League Managers Association annual dinner in Nottingham on May 12, this is your monthly chance to refresh your team of funds and keep your match performance on track.

In association with Money Marketing and International Money Marketing, Scottish Life International is promoting this investment strategy competition where competitors are playing to win the titles of IFA Manager of Managers 2003 and Best PIMS Return 2003.

The League Managers Association dinner is a one-in-a-million opportunity to get close to the leading names in soccer management, such as Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United and Arsene Wenger of Arsenal. If you win, you could attend the end of season dinner, the showcase event televised on Sky Sports where the LMA Manager of the Year award will be presented.

While the competition is no longer open to new players, those IFAs who registered as competitors at the start of the “season” can now exercise their investment management skills further by selecting their transfer funds.

Transfer deadline

If your own team has been struggling to find top form, competitors can take advantage of the competition transfer window to introduce new players. Fund selection transfer details can be found below and at www.sli.co.im/championscompetition

If you feel that your initial selection is not working out or if you need a different mix of skills for the rest of the season, then you have two opportunities to make a substitution. All you need to do is send an email to championscompetition@sli.co.im before the relevant transfer deadline.

There will be a “team update” available on the website this month and the closing date for submitting select fund transfers is by 5pm (GMT) on February 14, 2003.

Changes will come into effect at the start of the following performance period. Remember you can only change a defensive fund for another defensive fund, a midfield fund for another midfield fund, or an attack fund for another attack fund.

Two chances to shine

Scottish Life International&#39s two portfolio bond products – the Protected Investment Management Service (PIMS) for UK investors, and the International Protected Investment Management Service (IPIMS) for international investors – offer investors the chance to select investments from the world league of funds and hold them under a single portfolio umbrella. The squad of funds for the competitions is drawn exclusively from the funds offered by the Select Fund Managers under PIMS and IPIMS.

PIMS Insurance is an option available under the PIMS and IPIMS products. It is a unique facility that protects portfolios against the effects of falling markets.

The automatic inclusion of PIMS Insurance in your team means that it is protected against poor performance if stockmarkets fall. At the start of the competition, the value of your PIMS Insurance will be 101 per cent of the starting value of the portfolio.

Each month, on the PIMS Insurance valuation dates, your portfolio will be re-valued. If the new value is higher than the previous valuation, the PIMS Insurance valuation will rise to this level. If the value has fallen, then the PIMS Insurance value remains intact. Thus, the value of your PIMS Insurance can never fall.

At the end of the day, managers will be assessed on the actual performance of the team they have selected over the competition period.

This is the opportunity for Champions Competition-registered IFAs to finetune their selection.

A notification email will be sent (by February 19, 2003) to the email add-ress on the entry form, confirming any fund transfers.
