Online income protection offer

Price comparison website Moneysupermarket will allow consumers to compare deals on income protection by the end of the year.

The website currently enables consumers to compare prices on life cover, life and critical-illness, payment protection insurance and mortgage payment protection insurance.

It also offers comparisons on a range of consumer goods such as mobile phones, credit cards and flights.

Neither uSwitch nor Confused.com, Moneysupermarket’s main competitors, compare prices on income protection.

Protection sales manager Emma Walker says: “Income protection is an area we have not put live onto our website, not because we do not see it as a priority because we do but because we are relatively new to term insurance and we wanted to get the core products such as life and life and critical illness on first.”

Moneysupermarket has an FSA-regulated intermediary arm which offers advice over the phone on plans including income protection.

Walker says: “Our advisers recognise and talk about income protection. It is a key part of what they recommend.”
