Occupational pensions in danger warns consultancy

Occupational pensions are under threat from proposals outlined in the Chancellor&#39s enterprise shake-up announced last week says employee benefits consultancy Buck Consultants.

Buck warns that Government measures to encourage small business start ups are going to result in an investment culture unwisely taking inappropriate risks.

Instead it says a shake-up of the restrictive regime within which occupational schemes are obliged to operate is necessary, which would encourage uptake among smaller businesses.

Buck calls Gordon Brown&#39s review of how pension funds have responded to Myners a bullying tactic and an “inappropriate intrusion into the investment process of company pension schemes that will defeat the Government&#39s overall welfare objectives for the country.”
