Number of housebuyers down

The number of housebuyers on the books of estate agents fell by 13.6 per cent last month, according to figures released today by the National Association of Estate Agents.

The NAEA&#39s monthly survey of almost 10,000 agents also revealed that new applicant enquiries fell 24.1 per cent over the past three months, as homebuyers demonstrate an unwillingness to enter a housing market with an uncertain future.

However, sales rose by 1.5 per cent on the previous month and 10.7 per cent annually.

NAEA president Richard Hair says there is a definite wariness amongst the public to commit to a market which they fear may be slowing but the NAEA was expecting a natural leveling out rather than a crash.
