NU staff raise £18k for kids

Norwich Union staff have raised £180,000 for their 2001 staff charity of the year Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood.

The cash includes pound-for-pound matching by NU. It will pay for five specialist cancer care nurses for a year and and was raised from a variety of adventurous activities.

The activities included a team of four completing a five-day Spanish cycle ride which raised £33,400 and a white-water rafting event at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham raising £5,360.

Ann Rnic, whose son is in remission from cancer, arranged a karaoke performance followed by a 17-mile sponsored walk, which raised £3,000.

Teams from across the country brought in £8,000 in an outward bound challenge involving kayaking, raft building and hiking.

Head of sponsorship, community and event management David Czerwinski says: “We would have been delighted with the enthusiastic support by the staff in raising funds for their chosen charity. Almost everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer, with cancer in children being particularly distressing.”
