NU director to become an adviser

Norwich Union director of marketing for protection, annuities and equity release Willie Mowatt has quit to become an IFA.

Mowatt is looking to set up an adviser firm in the autumn after achieving the relevant qualifications and getting FSA authorisation. He will specialise in the retirement market.

He says his move has been inspired by his experience of speaking to customer focus groups during his 17 years at Norwich Union and previously Scottish Widows.

He says he found that consumers who trusted IFAs were always in a better financial position than those that did not use an IFA.

Mowatt says: “In over 20 years in product development and marketing roles with product providers, I have covered all product types that I can think of. In the last few years, I have been more focused on the at-retirement and in-retirement markets. Given the opportunity to try something different, I can see the growing opportunity to give quality advice in this part of the market as something I would like to have a go at.”

Mowatt’s roles at NU have been split between its exist- ing staff.
