SimplyBiz’s training arm New Model Business Academy has launched an A-level entry school leavers apprenticeship programme with the Babington Business College.

The apprenticeships last for 12 months and include the Chartered Insurance Institute financial administration exam, a national vocational qualification in providing financial services and a certificate in customer service.

Adviser firms can apply through the NMBA to take part in the programme. They can claim a grant of up to £1,500 in return for offering an apprentice a 12-month contract of 30 hours a week, providing them with monthly access to training and a mentor.

Firms have the option of extending the contract by a further year or ending the employment after 12 months.

NMBA chief executive Lee Travis says: “Post-RDR, bringing in new blood is a lot further up our agenda and we are delighted to be working with Babington Business College on this  scheme.”

Babington Business College Carole Carson says: “This initiative offers a fantastic opportunity for A-level students to enter into the financial services sector, whilst simultaneously helping small or medium-sized businesses to develop and bring new blood and talent into the industry.”

PMI Independent Financial Advisers director John Stewart says: “This is a great way of bringing young people into an industry which is in desperate need of new blood.”
