NMBA launches adviser apprentice scheme

SimplyBiz’s training arm the New Model Business Academy has launched an A-level entry school leavers apprenticeship programme with the Babington Business College.

The apprenticeships last for 12 months and include the Chartered Insurance Institute financial administration exam, an NVQ in providing financial services and a certificate in customer service.

Adviser firms can initially apply through the NMBA to take on apprentices. They can then claim a grant of up to £1500 per apprentice in return for offering them a 12-month contract of 30 hours a week, providing them with monthly access to training and acting as a mentor to the apprentice.

Firms have the option of extending the contract by a further year or ending the employment after 12 months.

NMBA chief executive Lee Travis says: “Post-RDR, bringing in new blood is a lot further up our agenda, and we are delighted to be working with Babington Business College on this  scheme.  Hiring an apprentice will be an excellent opportunity for most businesses, particularly small advisory firms.”

Babington Business College Carole Carson says: “This initiative offers a fantastic opportunity for A-level students to enter into the financial services sector, whilst simultaneously helping small or medium-size businesses to develop and bring new blood and talent into the industry.”
