New portal launched to fight ID fraud

A new identity verification portal has been launched to support advisers in fighting ID fraud.

The service eIDV, available through, uses URU from GB Group and BT within the web-based portal to allow professional advisors to verify clients’ identities. matches client data against databases including credit files, the electoral roll, landline telephone and sanctions data.

Using URU’s document checking capability, it can also validate passport, utility bill and driving licence information as well as check for alerts on both the Politically Exposed Persons and Bank of England sanctions lists. says it minimises the need for valuable personal information to be posted, photocopied and stored in hardcopy. Instead, everything can be processed electronically.

eIDV managing director Les Sharpe says: “The key benefit of is that it enables professional advisors to simply and efficiently verify a client’s identity instantly, even while sitting in the client’s office or living room.
