New legal service launched for IFAs

Financial services barrister Peter Hamilton has launched a specialist legal advice service for advisers and financial services firms.

Hamilton (pictured), who works as a barrister at 4 Pump Court, has set up the service with fellow barrister Alison Potter.

It offers legal advice and representation to advisers, including help with securing FSA authorisations and advice on appearing before the FSA’s regulatory decisions committee.

The service is also available to advisers who are the subject of FSA enforcement inves-tigations and where advisers receive claims of misselling by clients.

Hamilton says: “We want to make advisers, particularly smaller IFAs and sole traders, aware that there is a place to go for help.”

Philip J Milton & Company managing director Philip Milton says: “There is definitely a need for this type of service.”

Advisers can contact Hamilton and Potter through the website www.moneymatters

  1. I’m curious as to how a barrister can help when the F-pack don’t operate under the principles of English law.

  2. I don’t doubt Peter’s ability, though in view of the fact that the FSA will, without hesitation or any qualms, throw however much (of our) money it takes to secure the services of the best and most expensive barristers to argue their position, he’ll be up against it.

  3. Further proof, were any needed, that the IFA sector, if not the industry as a whole, is at war with the FSA.
