New firm to plug PR gap

A new consultancy has been launched with the aim of plugging a gap in the public relations market by advising organisations on aligning their internal and external strategies.

Joined Up Communications will focus on developing external strategic media relations for financial firms. It will combine this with advising firms on communicating with their staff, hence the “joined up” in the new consultancy&#39s title.

The firm has been formed by managing director Maria Darby with fellow director Ann Pilkington.

Darby is a former head of PR at Barclays while Pilkington has extensive experience with consumer brands such as BT and Woolworths.

According to the firm, its philosophy is about ensuring employees understand, and are part of its strategic messages. This in turn guarantees messages are communicated effectively to customers, media, shareholders and investors.

Joined Up says its launch is timely, as a forthcoming EU directive on employee communications and consultation will drive companies to look more closely at how they communicate with their staff.

Darby says: “Successful companies will be those that seize the opportunity to communicate effectively with staff as well as addressing the needs of external audiences. Customers are increasingly walking away from companies who promise the world but then give poor service.”
