IFA network DBS is backing a personal finance television programme on the
Simply Shopping channel which broadcasts on Sky Digital TV.
The programme, called Simply Money from DBS, will be broadcast daily for
an hour from the end of May initially for a three-month trial period. The
aim is to promote understanding of financial products to up to five million
DBS says the programme's name capitalises on the Simply Money brand used
by the channel before it was converted from a finance channel to a wider
shopping channel last month.
DBS members will inform consumers about per-sonal finance and investment
issues and answer questions from viewers.
Viewers can also phone the Simply Shopping call centre and their queries
will be passed on to members by DBS.
Simply Shopping says this type of programme, known as an infomercial, is
common in the US and involves businesses paying an up-front fee to appear
on the channel and an amount for each viewer inquiry.
The contract negotiated between DBS and Invest TV, Simply Shopping's
broadcaster, means DBS's competitors cannot set up a similar arrangement at
the same time.
DBS sales and marketing director Mark Summerfield says: “We think that the
programme could be particularly helpful with lead generation for the
substantial number of new members joining us who may not have the extensive
client banks of our more established members.”
