The Neptune US Opportunities fund has been handed a sell rating by Bestinvest, following a similar earlier action on the Fidelity American fund.
According to Bestinvest research team leader Simon Moore, the Neptune US Opportunities fund, managed by Felix Wintle, has on average under performed the S&P 500 index by 0.5 per cent per month over the past three years.
Moore says: “Wintle has made some aggressive sector calls, based on Neptune’s house views.
“These led to extremely strong performance during 2008 and 2009, which roughly coincided with the precipitous fall in the US stock market following Lehman’s collapse. However, the fund has struggled at other times.”
The fund has been given a one-star sell rating by Bestinvest, having previously been unrated.
