Nationwide in road safety initiative

Nationwide is to provide more than 5m UK primary schoolchildren with a reflective disc in a road safety scheme launched in conjunction with the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions.

Use of the discs, which bear the Nationwide logo, was successfully piloted in Swindon last winter, and will be extended across the country when the clocks go back in October 2001.

Nationwide chief executive Brian Davis says: “Child safety in the UK is poor compared to other European countries. This scheme will help save lives, and should be welcomed by parents with young children and by all drivers.”
