Nationwide closes 13 branches

Nationwide Building Society has closed 13 branches which it says were no longer “economically sustainable”.

Staff have been placed in a 30 day consultation period but Nationwide says staff have been offered the opportunity to take up positions elsewhere within the building society. The branches are due to close on May 27.

There will be 11 branch closures in the greater London and two closures in Swindon. The building society has 700 branches in total.

The building society has written to members to notify them of the closures.

A spokeswoman says: “We’ve made the difficult decision following a review of our distribution arrangements. We have closed some branches which were no longer economically sustainable for us.”

There are 2 comments at the moment, we would love to hear your opinion too.

  1. Five Nationwide Building Society branches near me are among those to close. Due to the fact that I use them regularly, if they close, that means I will close my accounts with Nationwide and look for banks that have branches near me.
    Period.

  2. The largest building society in the world, Nationwide, is pulling out of South East London, by closing SEVEN branches in every major shopping area, leaving just Eltham SE9.
If you do a search for “Nationwide branch closures” you will find an article from the Telegraph with the headline “Nationwide turns its back on the little people” with a useful map that shows the big “hole” in our area of NW branches.
Write or phone NW and complain, and tell them that you are not happy.
I consider that branches in Dartford and Gravesend are not part of SE London!
