National Mutual demutualises

National Mutual has announced plans to demutualise, explaining the move as a response to an increase in its unit-linked business to 85 per cent and a consistent reduction in its with-profits business.

It is expected National Mutual will be bought out rather than floated.

National Mutual managing director Gavin Hill says: “The board of a mutual has a duty to operate the business in the interests of its members and the possibility of a review of our mutual status has been discussed at regular times over the years.”
