National Ethical Investment Week set for May 2008

National Ethical Investment Week will launch in May 2008, organised by the UK Social Investment Forum, a non-profit ethical investment membership body.

It will run from 18-24 May and aims to build on the “soaring demand” for green and ethical investments.

UKSIF says financial advisers and other financial and community organisations will be encouraged to use National Ethical Investment Week to raise awareness of green and ethical investment choices.

Henderson Global Investors, Norwich Union and Friends Provident will sponsor the event.

UKSIF chief executive Penny Shepherd says over recent years, UKSIF’s training and support has enabled an increasing number of financial advisers to assist clients wanting advice on green and ethical funds.

She says: “We hope that advisers will highlight their skills and experience in advising on green and ethical investments to interested consumers during National Ethical Investment Week. We believe that the time is right for this exciting new move.”

Henderson Global Investors head of SRI George Latham says consumer interest in sustainable and responsible investing is continuing to grow rapidly.

He says: “What was once considered a niche market is proving itself to be a long-term growth trend. This initiative is a welcome and necessary contribution to the ethical debate, raising the profile of the industry and underlining that investing with a conscience can be a powerful and profitable catalyst for change.”
