The packs offer contact numbers of helplines and debt charities as well as basic guidelines on managing their household finances and housing costs. Love says that over the past few months, the deteriorating economy and higher food and energy prices have taken a toll on families in his constituency.
He decided to put together the information packs after being contacted by an increasing number of people who are worried about their financial situation. The packs include information on what to do if people are struggling to meet mortgage payments and where to get more information on benefits they may be entitled to claim.
Love says: “Unfortunately, in times of economic difficulty, those that are most affected are often the hard working families who do not have money put aside.
“My surgeries have been getting busier recently, and we have seen a big increase in the amount of people who are coming along to ask for financial advice.
“The idea of the packs is that people can get the help they need to sort out their finances before they get into difficulties.”
