MP tables motion to thank British Steel financial advisers

UK-Parliament-Big-Ben-Lamp-700x450.jpgLiberal Democrat MP Stephen Lloyd has tabled an Early Day Motion in parliament to thank advisers who assisted Port Talbot-based steelworkers disadvantaged in the British Steel pension saga.

Lloyd, the Liberal Democrat MP for Eastbourne tabled the motion this week as the party’s frontbench spokesman for work and pensions.

Henry Tapper: ‘We’ve really made a mess of DB transfers’

The motion asks the House of Commons to “thank the group of financial advisers who travelled from across the country to give their time and knowledge freely to the steelworkers of Port Talbot to help avoid pension misselling.”

Lloyd says: “The advisers who created Operation Chive displayed the power that ordinary citizens have to help solve problems in society.”

A second firm involved in the saga went into liquidation last week.

There are 3 comments at the moment, we would love to hear your opinion too.

  1. Can someone please explain why ProBono work is considered as free. It just means that that time is funded by other members of the public within their fees. These advisers have charged enough in the past to enable them to go and give their knowledge.

  2. Why didn’t you go and help then?

  3. Can’t speak for the others but I did it out of a sense of disgust for the way these people were exploited. A sense of disgust your stupid remark has just rekindled…. we all benefit from good publicity just as we all suffer when bad practice gets highlighted in the media.
