Movision site explains film finance for IFAs

Film partnership manager Movision Management has set up a website to help IFAs understand film financing as an investment and its tax benefits.

Movision has been making presentations to IFAs about investing in films and says many are confused by the variety of schemes on offer and their tax and investment benefits.

It believes IFAs do not fully understand the difference between film schemes aimed at tax deferral and those which combine tax savings and equity investment. It fears this confusion leads to problems in properly evaluating the risk/reward profiles of different schemes.

To help cut through misunderstandings in the market, Movision has set up the website as well as presentations on video and CD-Rom. The 15-minute presentations are free to IFAs and should help explain the potential of investing in film partnerships to their clients.

Movision spokesman Michael Cowan says: “As real film-makers with an attractive proposition for investors, we are concerned that IFAs should have a proper understanding of film financing and thus the professional confidence to recommend appropriate schemes to their clients, hence this educational initiative.”
