More delay on Equitable Life

The Government has come under attack for delaying its response to the Parliamentary Ombudsman’s Equitable Life report until after Christmas.

Last week, Leader of the House Harriet Harman revealed in Parliament that the Government would not be responding to the ombudsman until the week starting January 12 but did not offer any apology or explanation for the delay.

In the Queen’s Speech on December 3, the Government said that the response would be published before ChristmasTory Shadow Chancellor George Osborne says: “Gordon Brown has broken the promise he gave just days ago and betrayed thousands of Equitable Life savers waiting for justice. We do not have to wait until after Christmas to know that the recommendations should be implemented and savers should be treated fairly.”
