Miton eyes long/short equity fund launch

Miton is looking to launch a UK long/short equity fund, with George Godber likely to manage it, Money Marketing understands.

Godber joined Miton in January and was given the £34m CF Miton UK Value Opportunities fund, which launched in March, to co-manage with Georgina Hamilton.

Prior to joining Miton, Godber was at specialist investment boutique Matterley, a firm he co-founded in 2008. Here he was co-manager of the firm’s flagship £72m Undervalued Assets fund. Godber was previously a director at Credit Suisse.

Money Marketing understands the fund launch may be held back until next year.

No marketing for the fund has yet been carried out although it is thought the idea for the long/short launch came from Godber.

Chelsea Financial Services managing director Darius McDermott says: “Most managers I know do think the shorting side of things is a different art compared to traditional equity fund management.

“We have not met George since he moved to Miton but I do not think he has shorting experience.”
