Millions benefiting from Child and Working Tax Credits

More than five and three quarter million families are already receiving the Child and Working Tax Credits, according to the Inland Revenue.

It says more than 250,000 more tax credit awards were put in place over the last month alone, with another 45,000 being worked on. Six million are expected to benefit.

The new tax credits are expected to provide more than £16 billion a year, including an extra £2.7 billion in 2003/04 for families with children and low-income working households.
