A firm specialising in financial advice for overseas military services personnel is launching a direct-to-consumer platform next year powered by Ascentric.
Leicester-based Echelon Wealthcare, part of the Whitechurch Network, is planning to launch the platform in January.
It will receive a share of Ascentric’s platform charge plus an initial fee. Echelon director Alastair Rush says the service will complement the firm’s existing advice offering.
He says: “Many of the kind of clients we get are extremely well informed. Given the day job can mean flying a Typhoon jet, they know what it means to balance risk. Although many of our clients are stuck in places like Afghanistan they are still engaged with their finances and this offers an option for those that want to invest themselves.”
Echelon provides ongoing advice to about 250 clients, with most new business coming via referrals through the armed forces.
Rush served in the RAF before being discharged with a war disability pension. He says that pension triggered his interest in financial services. He then worked as an adviser before launching Echelon Wealth about three years ago.
Concept Financial Planning managing director Paul Richardson says: “It is important to have clarity of proposition but good luck to Alastair and I hope he succeeds. There is definitely a model out there and I think there is every chance this may enhance the value of what is already being offered.”
