Metro Bank has appointed former Kensington head of sales Charles Morley as its new head of distribution.
Morley will be responsible for managing the bank’s mortgage distribution network, both through its branches and its broker relationships.
He has spent the past 13 years at Kensington but has been on gardening leave since November, after leaving the specialist lender.
Metro Bank chief executive Craig Donaldson says: “It is a pleasure to welcome Charles to Metro Bank. His appointment comes at an important time for us; it follows an extremely successful year and is part of our commitment to grow our mortgage lending even further.”
In 2012, Metro Bank, which launched in 2010, increased its lending 796 per cent on the previous year, advancing £62.7m to mortgage borrowers, compared with just £7m in 2011. Its 2013 lending figures have not yet been published.
Morley says: “The chance to join a lender that has seen such immense growth and success, and puts the needs of its customers first, is one I couldn’t pass up.”
Brightstar Financial chief executive Rob Jupp says: “I think Metro Bank has got one of the brightest lights in the lending community and Charles knows intermediaries very well, having spent years working with them.
“Such a high-profile hire, to me, is a big statement of intent in 2014 and beyond.”
