MetLife picks chief for bulk annuity push

MetLife Assurance has appointed Dan DeKeizer as chief executive of its UK pension liability transfer business in a drive for bulk annuity buyout business.

The firm believes its experience in the US pension risk management business will see it well placed in the UK bulk annuity sector.

DeKeizer is a qualified actuary and was a senior executive in MetLife’s retirement strategies group in New York.

MetLife has also appointed Emma Watkins as business development manager to strengthen relationships with trustees, employers, plan sponsors and benefit consultants.

DeKeizer says: “We are a well capitalised specialist with a thorough understanding of longevity and investment risks, underpinned by the considerable resources and heritage of our parent company. There are significant differences between the UK bulk annuity market and the US pension risk management market, particularly when it comes to the regulatory structure, but we believe there are also some overwhelming similarities.”

He says the similarities include the importance of managing liabilities for increasing longevity and gradual convergence of accounting practices.
