Maddison sues NPI as admin chief is &#39poached&#39

IFA Maddison Monetary Management is suing life office NPI for £10,000 for poaching one of its key admin staff.

Maddison claims NPI recruited administrative manager Marion Allen after making her an offer “she could not refuse”, despite reassuring the IFA it would stop talking to her.

The IFA says NPI&#39s Epsom branch manager Geoff Cornish repeatedly called Allen in the months leading up to her departure to convince her to leave the Surrey-based outfit.

Maddison managing director Mark Howard says he approached NPI demanding it stop talking to Allen and was assured it would, so he was astonished when she told him on July 12 she was resigning to join the life office.

Allen worked for Australian-owned NPI for 12 years before joining Maddison a year ago.

Howard says he has att- empted to contact NPI for an explanation eight times without receiving a response other than the appropriate party was on holiday and would deal with it upon his return.

Howard says: “If that is the way they do business in Australia, that is fine, but it is not the way we do things here. These big life offices cannot violate the trust we have built up.”

NPI head of corporate communications Paul Green says: “We absolutely do not go in for poaching staff from IFAs. Having worked there for a period of time, she decided she did not like working there and she approached us and we agreed to take her back.”
