National IFA and wealth management consultant Lighthouse is sponsoring a sailing championship off the coast of Wales from September 5 to 8.
Lighthouse says the One Ton Race, in its 102nd year, is one of the world’ top five sailing championships and will attract Olympic-standard and royal competitors.
As lead sponsor, Lighthouse’ branding will be carried by all the boats taking part. The race is being broadcast live on the internet and will be covered by Sky Sports, the BBC and Welsh channel HTV.
Teams from the UK, Germany, France, Greece, the US, Spain and Sweden are expected to compete for a 10kg solid-silver trophy valued at £75,000.
This is the first time the event has been held in the UK for more than 100 years and the Pwllheli Sailing Club in Cardigan Bay, South Wales, says it beat bids from Ireland, France and England to host the event.
The race has been held in Athens, Fort Lauderdale and Marseilles in previous years.
Earlier this year, Lighthouse moved into motor racing sponsorship in an exclusive deal with the Aston Martin Club.
Lighthouse chief executive officer Matthew Goldsmith says: “The profile of the One Ton Cup is an exciting platform from which Lighthouse can build its reputation as a provider of innovative solutions to its clients.”
