L&G waits on internet cafe society

Legal & General is using the boom in internet cafes to serve up its range of Isas to the public.

The life office has struck a deal to run a campaign in eight of the cafes

run by the Internet Exchange.

Staff at the cafes will be wearing specially designed uniforms and

baseball caps prompting customers to visit L&G&#39s website.

A link on the Internet Exchange website will also give access to L&G&#39s

site so investors can find information and apply online for any of the 18

Isas offered by the company.

The chosen cafes are located in Cambridge, Southampton, York, Cardiff,

Manches-ter and Queensway in London.

They were picked because of their proximity to offices as L&G says it is

office workers who are most likely to use the internet to investigate

financial products.

The company sold nearly £2.75m of Isa products online in the last tax

year. This accounted for 13 per cent of its £21m total sales.

L&G retail customer director Kate Avery says: “This campaign aims to

encourage further online investment by providing potential customers

currently without access to the internet, with an opportunity to use the


“L&G is actively looking at opportunities that offer consumers wider

access to our services via the internet.”
