L&G updates protection underwriting criteria

Legal & General says its new underwriting criteria will speed up applications for life insurance and critical illness cover.

GP reports will be required for fewer applications, which L&G says will reduce delays in the application process.

For people under 50, nurse screening examinations will be the focus instead of GP reports. In addition, for people under 40, a GP report is only requested if the sum assured for life insurance is over £1m.

Protection underwriting and claims director Russ Whitworth says: “Less time spent underwriting means that advisers have more control and people can start their policies quicker.”
