L&G takes steps in bid to boost with-profits bonds

Legal & General is offering a step-by-step guide to with-profits bonds in to boost the popularity of the investment among the public.

The guide, which has been awarded a crystal mark by the Plain English Campaign, covers areas such as the history of with-profits bonds, what they are and what they aim to achieve.

It explains what type of investor they are suitable for, risks and rewards and impact of charges and early redemption. The guide also includes what investors need to look for in terms of the underlying strength of each fund, flexibility and all costs associated with the investment.

L&G says it issuing the guide because it believes the popularity of with-profit bonds has been hindered by the lack of understanding among consumers of how the product works.

It is the latest in a series of guides by L&G which try to explain subjects in clear language, ranging from buying a home to protecting families.

IFAs can get a copy of the guides through www.legalandgeneral.com.

PR manager (housing) Peter Timberlake says: “In this age of increasing transparency, guides such as this are going to be essential to IFAs in helping them explain to clients the intricacies of some of the trickier products on the market.”
